Archer Western and Wright Brothers Construction open new permanent lanes on I-26
HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. 鈥 Archer-Wright Joint Venture, in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), announced the opening of new permanent lanes on Interstate 26 in Henderson County, marking a significant milestone in one of western North Carolina鈥檚 largest transportation projects. The newly opened lanes span from U.S. 64 (exit 40) to Airport Road (exit 49), providing smoother and safer travel for drivers.
Archer-Wright, a joint venture between Archer Western Construction and Wright Brothers Construction, and its subcontractors, overcame hurdles like Covid, material shortages, and historic flooding from Hurricane Helene to complete the work with precision. The expanded westbound section features four lanes from U.S. 25 to Airport Road and three lanes from U.S. 64 to U.S. 25, while eastbound lanes from Airport Road to U.S. 64 opened as well.
The Henderson County widening project now stands 鈥渇unctionally complete鈥 after starting in fall 2019, addresses decades of congestion with 62 lane miles of new pavement, rebuilt bridges, upgraded drainage, and two modern rest areas.
Archer-Wright expressed pride in transforming I-26 into a reliable artery for local and long-distance travelers. 鈥淲e鈥檙e honored to partner with NCDOT on this historic project,鈥 said Jeremy Haines, Program Manager at Archer Western Construction. 鈥淭hese lanes represent years of hard work and a commitment to enhancing connectivity in western North Carolina.鈥
