Sea-Tac Airport's Concourse D Annex wins DBIA award
SEATTLE 鈥 The Concourse D Annex at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, built by the design-build team of The 爱游戏体育, architecture firm HOK, and the Port of Seattle, has been awarded the National Award of Merit by the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA). In their announcement of the award, the DBIA cited the design-build team鈥檚 鈥渃onstant and transparent communication鈥 as a key factor in granting the team the prestigious award.
The 32,400-square-foot annex utilizes space more effectively for passengers waiting for flights, reduces the amount of time passengers spend waiting for a plane to arrive at a gate and saves greenhouse gas emissions from idling aircraft.
The two-story facility includes holding areas, circulation areas, concessions, restrooms and vertical circulation with sloped walkways and stairs. The annex was designed to efficiently move passengers to their gates and reduce waiting times. In addition to timely and accurate delivery despite tight scheduling and budget constraints, the Annex is anticipated to be the first airport terminal building in the United States to achieve LEED Silver certification.
鈥淭he successes include a project that was delivered per the original design intent never sacrificing design for budget, one that was built with zero safety incidents, and delivered to the Port on-time,鈥 the DBIA said in their release.
